What are Flax Hulls?  Flax Hulls (Lignans) are natural organic shell only of the flaxseed without any seed materials or oil. Three recently published scientific studies reinforce the protective power of sulforaphane, the naturally-occurring antioxidant in broccoli and broccoli sprouts by demonstrating three new aspects of disease prevention by sulforaphane. Studies on sulforaphane (SGS) in human cell lines and laboratory animals show its potential effect on hypertension, prostate cancer and macular degeneration.  The studies, reported in late 2001 by scientists from Johns Hopkins, Stanford University and the University of Saskatchewan, give new significance to the potential health benefits of sulforaphane, the antioxidant phytochemical originally isolated from broccoli, and now available to consumers as Fortified Flax Hulls with Broccoli Sprouts.  In a series of experiments, rats with high blood pressure (hypertension) that were treated with sulforaphane showed a significant reduction in the tendency to develop artery-narrowing plaques. Working with rats that develop high blood pressure, Dr. Bernard Juurlink at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, Canada, demonstrated that sulforaphane retards oxidative damage leading to arterial occlusion, a potentially significant breakthrough in proactive therapies against blocking of arteries. Sulforaphane may, therefore, interrupt the progression of plaque development to strokes.



Dr. Paul Talalay and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins (Dr. Talalay first demonstrated the efficacy of sulforaphane as an antioxidant in protecting against cancers) describe new studies showing that treatment with low concentrations of sulforaphane protects human retinal (eye) cells against a variety of severe oxidative challenges. As humans age, the defenses of their cells are known to decline. Human prostate cancer cells responded well to treatment with sulforaphane in the form of broccoli sprout extracts by showing dramatic increases in their protective Phase 2 enzymes. In his article, Dr. James D. Brooks of the Urology Department at Stanford suggests, "Intervention trials may be warranted [in humans], and broccoli sprouts, a rich natural source of sulforaphane, may be appropriate for use in such a trial."  Dr. Talalay commented that continuing research on sulforaphane opens new vistas on the impact of naturally-occurring antioxidants. "We know sulforaphane raises the activities of Phase 2 enzymes that inactivate carcinogens. That's one of its strongest attributes. If we can translate those attributes to prevent other chronic degenerative conditions, that will be a highly significant advance."



The Stanford studies actually used broccoli sprouts to elicit the protective effects in the scientific experiments involving prostate cancer intervention.  It is important to point out that these studies involved animals and human cells in the laboratory, but the stage is now set for human trials to assess the further protective qualities of sulforaphane against a variety of life-challenging medical conditions.

About Flax Hull Lignans

Flax Hulls are a natural organic substance containing high levels of lignans called secoisolariciresinol glucoside or SDG which, when converted to mammalian lignans (ED and EL) by good bacteria are powerful antioxidants and potent free radical scavengers.


Flax has been cultivated for at least 7,000 years, making it one of the first domesticated crops. The health and medicinal value of flaxseed has also been long known. However, the reason why flaxseeds promote health has only in recent times been made known.


Flax is an oilseed that belongs to the genus Linum. Its varieties are of two types: one is grown for oil and the other for fibre production. In most countries, flaxseed is also called "linseed". Flaxseed contains fat (38% - Omega 3, 6, 9), Fibre (28%), Protein (19.5%), Carbohydrate (6.5% - sugars, lignans, phenolic acids, hemicellulose), Ash (4%), Minerals (1.8% - calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium, copper, zinc, manganese, selenium), Vitamins (0.32% - A, B1, B2, C, E, Niacin), Lecithin (0.15%), Flavonoids (0.1%), Phytic acid (o.1%).


Note: this analysis is based on a typical analsyis of Canadian flaxseed. The proximate composition of flaxseed can vary appreciably with genetics, soil, climate, seed processing and analytical methods.


While attention surrounding flaxseed has been its source of essential fatty acids, recent studies and research have revealed that the substance called "lignans" within flaxseed has very important and useful medicinal qualities too. The health benefits of lignans may equal or surpass those of flaxseed oil.


Lignans are a group of phytonutrients (plant chemicals) found in seeds and grains. Flaxseed has by far the richest source of phytonutrients . It yields an extraordinary 800 mcg/g. The flaxseed oil has less than 2% of lignans. The lignan found in flaxseed is called secoisolariciresinol glucoside (SDG). The lignan in flaxseed is a type of carbohydrate and classed as a phenolic compound or polyphenol.


The first report of lignan in flaxseed was not until 1956 and it was not until 1980 before researchers reported that the level of lignans in the body of patients with breast cancer were lower than tumour free patients. It was also noted that vegetarians had higher concentrations of lignan substances than was in omnivores.


There are two general types of lignans - those found in plants and those found in animals and humans or mammalian lignans. When plant lignan SDG from flaxseed is ingested, it is converted in the colon by friendly bacteria to mammalian lignans - enterodial (ED) and enterolactone (EL). Thus flaxseed lignan SDG is a precursor to mammalian lignans ED and EL.


Lignans have numerous biological properties that make them unique and very useful in promoting health and combating various diseases. These amazing lignan compounds have shown such extraordinary potential that the National Cancer Institute (US) has studied them for their cancer preventative properties. SDG lignan not only has anti-cancer properties, it is also anti-viral, anti-bacteria and anti-fungal. It is also a powerful antioxidant and has been shown to enhance the immune system functioning being effective against many different diseases.


A major reason why lignans provide certain health benefits is because they are considered to be "phytoestrogens". They are plant chemicals that mimic the hormone estrogen. Studies have shown that individuals who consume more lignan-containing foods have lower incidence of breast and colon cancers due to this phytoestrogen effect.


The mounting scientific evidence shows how important it is to consume a lignan-rich diet. Now SDG from flaxseed can be extracted in a pure form naturally making it one of nature's most beneficial and powerful nutraceuticals.


Flaxseed lignan is a natural food supplement extracted from a whole food just like rice bran, lecithin or beta-carotene. It is a safe and natural means to prevent or combat a host of health issues. Studies involving consumption of 50 gm of flaxseed a day or high doses of 99% pure SDG extracts posed no health problems in both animal or humans.


Another test was conducted to determine the influence of consuming 50 gm of flaxseed a day or 4 weeks in young healthy adults. This would be equivalent to 1 gm or SDG per day. Plasma LDL cholesterol was reduced by up to 8%, and total urinary lignan excretion was increased more than five fold. Antioxidant vitamins were not significantly affected. Bowel movement per week increased by up to 30%. This study revealed no adverse effects from high consumption of flaxseed. Other studies done to determine if flax lignan SDG or its mammalian lignans possessed any genotoxic potential (causing chromosome abnormalities). The conclusion, as indicated earlier, was that the lignans were devoid of any genotoxic potential.

 

Broccoli Sprouts


People who eat lots of produce -- especially vegetables -- lower their risk of developing many common cancers, such as malignancies of the breast, lung, stomach, and prostate. Based on this common observation, the National Cancer Institute and numerous other public and private health organizations now advocate that people eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables daily.


According to new survey data compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 60 percent of the population fails to meet its recommended intake of vegetables -- three to five servings per day (based on an individual’s size and calorie intake) -- and 75 percent of us don’t eat the recommended 2 to 4 servings of fruits daily. Indeed, 48 percent of us fail to down even one serving of fruit daily, an amount equal to one medium apple or 3/4 cup of fruit juice.


Dark green vegetables are among those that have been associated most strongly with cancer protection. Yet a typical U.S. resident eats no more than one serving a week of such vegetables through age 30 and then 1.2 servings per week after that.


Broccoli appears especially beneficial -- owing to its relatively high concentrations of sulforaphane, a compound that turns on detoxifying enzymes in the body (SN: 3/21/92, p. 183). Indeed, over the past few years researchers at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore have demonstrated that in animals exposed to chemical carcinogens, diets rich in sulforaphane dramatically cut cancer development.



A new report out of Hopkins’ Brassica Chemoprevention Laboratory, recommended enriching the diet with sulforaphane. In the Sept. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Paul Talalay and his team at Hopkins reported finding that newly sprouted seeds of broccoli and related members of the mustard (Brassica) family contain a chemical -- glucoraphanin -- that is converted into sulforaphane when the plant’s cell walls are broken, as during chewing. What happens is that a normally sequestered enzyme, known as myrosinase (pronounced my-ros-i-nace), gets released and triggers the glucoraphanin's transformation into sulforaphane.


Knowing this, Talalay says, "I cannot eat any of these [brassicas] now without chewing and waiting for the bite that occurs -- a sudden sharp taste." The same reaction causes the delayed kick to a peppery radish as it’s eaten. Owing to this myrosinase reaction, Talalay says, brassica sprouts "are much more interesting than alfalfa sprouts, which I think taste like straw." And the good news for people who don’t like or can’t tolerate broccoli, he says, is that broccoli sprouts don’t taste like broccoli.


In their new study, Talalay, Jed W. Fahey and Yuesheng Zhang grew different brassicas from seeds to determine when the sulforaphane precursor developed. And they found it present in the seed in startling concentrations. As the seed sprouted, it didn’t make any more, but it also didn’t lose any. So 3-day-old seedlings still represented a particularly enriched source of the glucoraphanin.


While young broccoli sprouts exhibited high concentrations of the sulforaphane precursor, so did those of related plants -- including arugula, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, collards, water cress, daikon, kale, kohlrabi, mustard, and conventional turnips. Sprouted seeds of each of these plants contain 10 to 100 times as much of the cancer-inhibiting compound as do mature, field grown plants.


Among these, broccoli and cauliflower cultivars invariably proved the top performers. To measure a cultivar’s potential anticancer activity, they extracted materials from its sprouts and ran them through an assay that measured their ability to activate certain detoxifying enzymes known as phase-2 enzymes.


They quantified the effect of these compounds in terms of their ability to increase the activity in a test tube of a common phase-2 enzyme (quinone reductase). One unit of activity corresponded to a doubling in this enzyme’s activity. Seed dealers offer some 80 different cultivated varieties of broccoli alone, and Talalay’s team found that there was wide variability in what a given cultivar could deliver. In their new study, each gram of 3-day-old broccoli sprouts exhibited 92,500 to 769,000 units of activity. Cauliflower sprouts ranged from 50,000 to 560,000 units per gram.


Mature broccoli not only contains glucoraphinin but also a host of related compounds not seen in the sprouts. Mostly indole glucosinolates, these additional chemicals have evolved to detoxify foreign compounds in our diet, usually through the activation of both phase-2 enzymes and a class of enzyme systems called phase-1.


The phase-1 systems tend to take a fairly nonreactive compound, such as the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons formed during combustion, and subtly alter them to make them slightly more water soluble. It’s a step that makes it easier for the body to excrete them.


Agents that activate phase-1 enzymes, however, "occasionally react with negatively charged bases in our DNA, causing damage and setting in motion mutations and carcinogenesis," Talalay says. "So while most chemicals that enter the body are in themselves innocuous, some can be converted by phase-1 enzymes into highly reactive carcinogens."


Phase-2 enzymes can trigger antioxidant reactions and other chemical changes that can often defuse toxic transformations initially wrought by the phase-1 enzymes. This has led some cancer biologists to speculate that whether a potential carcinogen damages DNA will depend on the balance between active phase-1 and phase-2 enzymes, Talalay explains. It’s also led his lab to seek out dietary constituents -- like sulforaphane and its precursor -- that selectively activate phase-2 enzymes only. And that’s another advantage the sprouts have over the mature plant, he says: They trigger the preferential phase-2 enzyme activity almost exclusively.


"I see his point" -- why focusing on phase-2 enzyme inducers appears so rational, says cancer researcher John M. Pezzuto of the University of Illinois at Chicago. "On the other hand, I don’t see that anyone is saying that normal, mature broccoli is dangerous." Indeed, he says, "I personally find it difficult to believe that the phase-1 enzyme inducers in our diet are hazardous." However, he says that until there is a better understanding of the overall balance of these enzymes and their effect on human health, "perhaps it is prudent to stick with [advocating a boosting of intake] of just these phase-2 enzyme inducers."


Marion Nestle is less convinced. Head of nutrition and food studies at New York (City) University, she jokes that "no rational person can understand this arcane world of phase-1 and phase-2 enzymes" -- at least how they play out in terms of effects in the body. In a commentary slated for publication in an upcoming issue of the PNAS, she cites work by Bruce Ames indicating that even phase-2 enzyme systems can sometimes transform a chemical from nontoxic to toxic.


Though she acknowledges that, in general, phase-2 enzymes are less likely than phase-1 enzymes to do this, she says that it’s still too early to understand what the significance of modifying dietary sulforaphane intake will be. Then again, she adds, it’s hard to imagine anyone overdosing on sprouts. "So if you want to eat broccoli sprouts, go ahead," she says.

Let me start with saying I'm HIV+ and was told I am full blown as of June 2003. My viral load is so high, it's off the charts! (338,000). My doctors told me I was dying.

  • 9-27 Increase in appetite first week. Everything else is the same. No energy. Have to nap through the day. Diarrhea is much, much worse.

Dear Dr. Daves,

This letter is to thank you for your contribution to my successful recovery to this date from breast cancer using flax lignans as part of my home therapy program.

I was diagnosed at the University of Va Hospital with infiltrating ductal carcinoma in my right breast in August of 2002. I had a lumpectomy in November for a 2 and ½ cm tumor. All margins were clear. I declined further treatment. In February I had a recurrence in the same breast in a different location but possibly in the same milk duct. I had the 7 mm tumor removed by a lumpectomy in March, 2003 and I also had the sentinel nodes removed. Two out of three nodes were infected upon closer inspection after surgery. I refused further treatment options which included removal of the rest of the nodes in that region, chemotherapy and radiation. A CT scan in early April revealed a possible tumor in the lining of the lung that was too small to biopsy.

In the end of April, 2003, I began eating 1 capful of flax lignans daily. This was in addition to the following supplements: 1/3 c of the Cherokee cancer cure-tea made from indigenous plants on the reservation, 1 t of graviola-a plant from the Amazon forest thought to work like chemotherapy, 90 days of Pawpaw, from the Pawpaw tree thought to work like chemotherapy, RM 10 (Garden of Life) a mixture of mushrooms for increasing the immune system; 8-10,000 units of Vitamin C; digestive enzymes; Body Balance and Osteoprocare by Life Force International- a combination of liquid vitamins and minerals in an aloe vera base and 1 t Miracle II triple strength neutralizer.

In June and Oct 2003 I had CT scans. Both of them showed no significant change in the lining of the lung. In Oct, 2003 I had a mammogram with two significant spots one on each breast and underwent biopsies. The left breast was found to be calcification with no cancer and the right biopsy of a 7mm mass in the bottom of the first lumpectomy site was found to be inflammatory tissue with no indication of cancer.

I attribute the successful control of the cancer to flax lignans and the supplements I was taking, plus the following: much prayer both personally and from hundreds of friends; laying on of hands, massage, Reiki, acupuncture as well as yoga, 2-3 x a week. Also colonics once a week with colemas and coffee enemas several times a week at home. I limited my intake of sugar. Most of my food came from raw organic vegetables and raw organic vegetable juices. My intention was to detox my body and build up my immune system. I believe the flax lignans were an intricate part of my successful recovery thus far.

I just gave a blood sample for a blood test of Hbg, RBS, etc-just a very routine test. About my health, I do feel better, my appetite is far more than what it used to be. I think I sleep better than before. I do find a spot on my hand (Kaposi's Sarcoma) clearing, with the upper layer coming off, and the size is definitely reduced. It is on the nail side of the index finger between the knuckle and the finger bending joint. However, I do find another one coming up on the middle finger, at the first joint behind the nail. It is not a mark or a rash or a lesion but a node like KS. I had a very severe constipation and that seems to have reduced now. I do go to clear off once a day at least, though I do not evacuate completely. But it certainly is much better than before. Yesterday I had a mild fever, and I loved it!!! Mainly because my normal body temperature is 2 degrees below normal. Fever is a good sign as it signifies that the immune system is fighting back. I hope I am right. Normal body temperature is 98.6 degrees F, mine is usually 95-96 deg F. This happened last year in July when I felt the virus is back on the attack. It never went normal again after that. I think the cold sweats are due to this fact also.

Well about the effect of the flax. I am feeling a little better than I was feeling during the last report. The mark on my index finger is not gone, but not increased also. It reduced during the last report and persists to that size. The KS on the thumb persists and has not gone. It keeps reducing and coming back, hence more or less, it is as it was before. Cold sweats are there still, but reduces as in the last report, but not vanished. The KS that I felt was coming up on the middle finger has vanished and there is not sign of it.


Testimony #5 - Russ (USA) - HIV+
I got biopsy of my tonsil-completely normal. For some reason, I just have one tonsil that is larger than the other, but the tissue is fine. It does not appear to be inflamed as if viral related. So, I am one happy man. I FEEL GREAAAAAAAT!!!!

 

Testimony #6 - John (Canada) - HIV+

In 1995 I was diagnosed as H.I.V. positive. Immediately, I was put on an antibiotic that I took everyday. Since being H.I.V. positive and on the antibiotic, I noticed that I was having stomach discomfort (vomitting, gas acid, etc.). Usually it would pass when I vomitted. I thought this nausea in the mornings was caused by me eating a lot more and taking all sorts of different vitamins to keep my immune system strong. In 1999, I was put on AIDS medication. There were 7 pills taken every morning and evening. Now I was taking AIDS medication and antibiotics as well. Now I noticed that I was vomitting a lot more and after vomitting I could nt stop belching. The gas would last all day. I would take all kinds of antacids from the drug store.

None of the pharmaceutical drugs worked. Some of them actually made me more ill. I was losing a lot of weight and had reached an all time low in my health. I decided to stop taking the AIDS medication and the antibiotics because I knew that it was the antibiotics that made me ill. Even weeks after I stopped taking the medication I still had the gas and after I ate the belching wouldn't stop. I usually end up vomitting.

I came upon LB17 live probiotic and decided to try it since all else had failed me. I was told that in 10 days the gas should stop. So I took them as directed and I noticed that they were gentle on my stomach. I didn't have to vomit the next day but I still had some gas. This went on for 5 days before I noticed a marked improvement in my health. I would now wake up with no gas and my stomach felth healthy and in 2 weeks I was starting to eat those gas-causing foods such as broccoli, peas and potatoes that I wouldn't have eaten in the past because they would make me bloat.

I now have more energy, I sleep better and I am able to think more clearly becauseI am getting the nutrients my body needs from the foods I am eating and I weigh more. I now have a quality of life that I didn't have before.

I had my doctor's check-up and lab results came back and it is just amazing! My "viral load" (viral infection) was not detectable and my T-cells (white cells) count had increased from around 135 to more than 165!! I feel really good and never healthier and had not even had a cold last winter whereas my doctor thought I would not last the winter of 2002 due to potential viral infections, etc!

I am very pleased and will continue to use the Osumex products to help me to continue to recover my health, especially the LB17 and Maitake mushrooms.

Again my blood test results were good. My viral load is still undetectable and my T-cells count is still 165.

I must add that after taking LB17 live probiotic for over one year now, I noticed that the thrush (Candida albican) which was always present under my tongue was gone. Candida is common to those who are HIV+.

I also noticed that the mucous that I constantly had in my lungs is clearing up. My lungs feel cleaner and I felt my breathing is better.

AIDS Research & Assistance Institute has been involved in an ongoing study and implementation campaign with Flax Hull Lignans since 2002. Our organizational goals with this program are two fold:

  • To find all natural foods, supplements and substances that can be used to strengthen the immune system and help battle the physical ramifications of AIDS/HIV and the associated diseases that come as a by-product of a stripped auto-immune system.
  • To make provision of these all-natural products so that the poor, needy and destitute in 3rd world nations can be given hope, quality of life and better physical health while they struggle with AIDS/HIV. Our main focus is HIV Pos. children and orphans in the 3rd world.

We started with 3 rounds of studies, with 100 people in each round taking the product for a 90 day period. Round 1 and 2 were done in the U.S. in 2003, with round 3 done in South Africa and Swaziland in 2004. Through the gracious donation process of NDI (suppliers of Osumex Flax Hulls) flax hull producers, we were able to supply the studies with adequate product.

Due to the complex nature of clinical studies, the huge costs in double blind studies, and the huge gap between normalized clinical studies and 3rd world availabilities, ARAI uses anecdotal studies which bring a general understanding of a product's capabilities, as perceived by those taking the product and those administering the product.

Rounds 1 & 2
U.S. based, 90 days, 100 individuals with various diseases and ailments including HIV/AIDS, various cancers including breast cancer, prostate cancer, Lymphoma, bone cancer, arthritis, diabetes, hepatitis C, athlete's foot and more.

Rounds 1 & 2 consisted of implementing 2 scoops of product (scoop enclosed in canister) per day in water, cereal, foods, etc. Patients filled out a full health survey concerning their current ailments, physical and mental condition, pain levels and hopes for what Flax Hull Lignans could help accomplish by strengthening the immune system. Patients agreed to not change medications or lifestyle during the 90 day process. Patients delivered a 30, 60 and 90 day report giving any noticed changes in health, condition of ailments, etc.

During round 1, we realized that 15% of the patients were experiencing constipation with the fibrous content of Flax Hull Lignans. Those 15% either found a way to increase daily water consumption or they backed down to 1 scoop of product per day.

75% of patients studied found some type of positive response to the product study within 30 days, many responses were dramatic. 90% of patients studied had a positive response to the product study within 90 days. Responses included dramatic reduction in size of cancers, reduction in insulin needs with diabetics and blood sugar levels coming into order, HIV/AIDS symptoms disappearing, general feeling of vitality, HIV blood levels strengthening and viral loads diminishing. 10% of patients noticed no change in health during the 90 day study.

Round 2 brought about 1 change only. We noticed that among those who backed down their dosage to 1 scoop per day because of constipation issues, those patients still had very positive responses to the product. Therefore, the second 100 patients on Round 2 received only 1 scoop of product per day for 90 days. The results came in exactly the same with 55% of patients having a positive response within the first 30 days, and 90% having a positive response within 90 days, and 0% constipation issues in the group.

It was further realized through Round 1 and 2, that those whom had dramatic changes in health during the first 30 days maintained those changes in health through the entire 90 day period, with only a few continuing changes through the 60 and 90 day period. Most changes that were going to occur within the 90 day period - did indeed occur for those patients within the first 30 days.

Round 3 was performed in Durban, South Africa, Piet Retief, South Africa and Swaziland (highest AIDS pandemic areas globally). The 90 day study included 1 scoop of product per day for adults and 1/2 scoop of product per day for children 12 and under. All 100 patients were HIV Positive and 75% experienced AIDS symptoms including (cancer, thrush, mental fatique and lack of focus, diminished strength, swelling of glands and other various AIDS related symptoms). The African people responded more quickly to the study, with 64% having a health change within the first 30 days, and 97% noticing a positive health change within the 90 day study.

The higher levels of response were very interesting, and our group could only suppose that the general immune health, nutritional health and lack of lifestyle toxicity in the 3rd world may have resulted in a better response to the program.

We are pleased to announce that after 3 rounds of loosely knit studies, we are absolutely confident in the power of Flax Hull Lignans, and their ability to do what we had supposed in the beginning.

IMPACT ON APATHETIC AFRICAN SOCIETY
The impact of Round 3 study on the African people was dramatic. Both those who were a part of the Round 3 program, and those who administered the program became intensely interested in how to get increased amounts of this product. The general mindset of the grass roots African society is one of apathy concerning HIV/AIDS because there seems to be absolutely "NO" cure, help or reasonable treatment to help one afflicted. ARAI representatives have noticed the following in Africa:
  1. HIV/AIDS is truly at pandemic level in the continent of Africa with societies such as South Africa dealing with 28.5 million infected, spanning from tribal Zulu's to middle and upper class college students in larger cities. The nation of Swaziland is faced with the challenge of national extinction by 2025 if some answer is not delivered before then. Other nations face the same horrific futures if an answer is not given.
  2. The medications that have been made available by the U.S. and other nations are not reasonable for South African Zulu infected because:
    • The reduced cost of the anti-retroviral meds still costs $85 - $115 per month, which is 3 times the monthly income of an infected South African Zulu (if they are able to work), therefore the meds aren't being distributed because they're unaffordable.
    • The power of the meds requires adherence to time sensitive administration, and proper storage of some of the meds. Many of those infected don't have a watch,let alone operate by an hourly - time mind set.
    • The main program model that seems to be predominant in the African nations is one of "education". While this is extremely important to curb the pandemic from spreading to non-infected, there seems to be a huge gap which millions are falling into. It seems that as long as a person is not infected with HIV, there are resources and education available to help a person or community understand how to "not" get HIV. However, for those millions already infected, there is little hope, little resource and seeming little attention given - as they're the ones with the death sentence written.
    • There is a huge clash between the current educational programs and the Zulu nation historic beliefs and traditions. Many won't adhere to the educational programs because of long time traditional beliefs and lifestyle among many, therefore the infection rates continue to increase.
  3. The age ranges most affected by this pandemic include the working class age group, leaving behind only the elderly and orphans - as is the case of Swaziland which faces extinction in 2025 if an answer is not provided.
ANSWERS:
ARAI believes that with the implementation of Flax Hull Lignans into the diet of HIV/AIDS patients, as well as the entire general population for increased immune system strength, that the overall immune health of all involved would strengthen, production levels would increase among the work force and market place, AIDS symptoms would diminish and those who are currently being discarded with no hope could find a place of increased auto-immune health, vitality and a return to social productivity.

Currently, in association with NDI, ARAI is shipping flax lignans into South Africa and Swaziland, with future shipments to include Zimbabwe this year. Product is being given free of charge to orphans and children with AIDS, as well as HIV pos parents who have children depending on their health and income for living.

ARAI has multiple relationships with governing officials, health practitioners, business owners, corporate CEO's, and relief organizations in the African nations who are moving forward in belief that the answers are "AT HAND AND AVAILABLE". Flax Hull Lignans are a part of that answer to restore health to the African populations.
